If your flight has been cancelled due to Covid-19, the airline must offer you an alternative flight or a full refund of your airfare. If you're offered an alternative flight, you are under no obligation to accept it and may still demand a full refund.
To request a refund, you will need to have the flight number, date of flight, booking number (or PNR), as well as the names of the passengers for which you're requesting a refund. Certain airlines may also ask for the payment method, which was used at the time of purchasing the tickets.
Covid-19 is considered an extraordinary circumstance which occurs outside of the carrier's control, hence airlines are not obliged to pay compensation under EC261/2004 for delayed, cancelled or overbooked flights.
To avoid bankruptcy, many airlines have decided to issue travel vouchers instead of refunds for unused tickets. You are under no obligation to accept a voucher and may still demand a refund, however, keep in mind that processing times are extremely long and it may take well over a year before you receive your cash refund.
ClaimCompass Inc is a leading air passenger advocate and has helped over 200,000 travellers claim and receive tens of millions of Euros in compensation from the world's leading airlines.
We built this first version of the Covid-19 claim submission tool and decided to give it away for free after we received an endless amount of assistance requests from our past and current customers. We spent weeks to reply to everyone and finally decided to leverage our automation technology and legal know-how to develop this tool.
ClaimCompass was built by passionate travellers and this tool is our modest way of expressing our deep commitment to helping fellow travellers in need. If you'd like to support us, then make sure you get our brand new Service app.
